I'll have been with my girlfriend for a whole year on Saturday. It feels as if I've been with her far longer, but also for no time at all. Which is a horrible cliché, but terribly true. The fact that we usually only meet once a fortnight might have something to do with it.
In a move of debatable wisdom, my darling Sarah has bought me a Playstation. And Final Fantasy VIII. Maybe she's getting bored of me prodding her online and is looking forward to a few months of nothing but apologetic texts ("Sorry, can't talk, saving a fantasy world"). To counter this, I bought her Final Fantasy XII. When we finally both stick our heads out of the door and peer blinkingly into the daylight, we can compare notes. The only console-based game I've played at length has been Final Fantasy X (at Sarah's), so I'm looking forward to playing an earlier game, which happens to be her favourite. So I'd better enjoy it, or will have to explain myself!

In other news, I now have enough money for new glasses and a haircut. So quite soon I'll no longer have to squint through these old lenses and my fringe to see people a foot in front of me. Hurrah!

If anyone has seen any amusing April Fools stories online, do leave a comment with a link to them. I slept through the morning, and thought the story about a Guantanamo prisoner actually being sentenced for something might be one, but it's looking as if it might actually have happened. He spent more time in there than I spent looking for work after dropping out of uni. The Job Centre might not be perfect, but their modes of torture are at least subtle and limited to messing up paperwork. Thank fuck America is not the world.

Today after work I bought a bar of chocolate. Perfectly innocuous. Until I noticed the slogan on the side.

Not only does it sound like a fine example of Engrish, but it marks an unholy departure from the previously subliminal art of making people think your product equates with a better life. They're actually labelling it HAPPINESS now! It's bloody chocolate! If you can't be arsed to write something that cleverly manipulates people into buying it, resorting to saying "this is actual happiness, in bar form" is not a viable alternative. Mooks.

Far too long since I blogged. There was an article in the Guardian today which claims that blogging is in the descendent. The day I follow a trend will be the day.....actually, everything's trendy already. But I'm gonna start keeping this up again. I'm fed up of newspapers referring to blogs as if they were all insightful political commentary from the front line of whatever issue is on the front page that day. Some of us just want to write crap. And we will not be silenced.

Well, I'm in Edinburgh (Beth's at a lecture, so I'm making use of her laptop and freeview TV! Woo!), and yesterday I didn't make a single post on the Project Rockstar forums! Yes! And today.....I can't anyway, because the site sort of crashed a bit during the update and is not currently running.....but I'm not tempted to go onto the backup forums, which is good!

Anyway, PR aside, I'm having a grand time. Yesterday we found a pie shop where for the exceptionally reasonable sum of £3.17, we bought two large pasties and two doughnuts. Excellent lunch! And the night before, we had dinner in an Indian restaurant where we met a bloke from South India, who'd travelled all over the world for his IT job and wanted to be a film maker. He spent about an hour giving me a pep talk on getting into the creative industries. (I seem to attract people who have a huge desire to give inspirational lectures. Not a complaint, merely an observation. If they'd start buying me drinks, I'd be set for life.)

And today looks sunny and bright. We'll probably have all-you-can-eat Chinese for lunch, climb the unfeasibly tall Scott Monument, wander along the Royal Mile, then buy massive amounts of booze and spend the evening watching DVDs. w00t!

Wow.....the latest Harry Potter film was FUN! :D

Admittedly, most of my pleasure was derived from doing a little dance (clawing the air like a cat trying to reach a fish on a string....or something.....) every time I saw someone onscreen who I like - Jarvis Cocker, Ralph Fiennes, David Tennant.....mmm, I love them!

David Tennant'll be the next Dr Who - and the end of the last series featured Chris Eccleston's Doctor regenerating into Mr Tennant. So I was hugely amused to see an HP character do exactly the same thing! Ahhh, it's all about Dr Who.......the film even had a TARDIS-like tent that was bigger on the inside than the outside. I expected Tom Baker to pop up and explain it to Harry when he looked amazed. Tom had better turn up in one of these films, he's too magical not to.

Today I am mostly exploring the Royal Armouries site in preparation for an interview-type-doo-dah on Monday. It'll be a part-time thing involving general helping of the public - ticket-taking, strolling the galleries, explaining exhibits, helping children understand the wonders of history.....all manner of delights.
